Well, welcome in to the very first of my FRIDAY TEARDOWNS! [ I will be doing some video on future ones but lets just stay at this for the moment.]
ok, so today you’ll be getting a look inside an internet router (roughly of 2002 vintage) so not that old but… old enough to be obsolete …. though as the proverbial saying goes not obsolete enough that you can’t find the datasheet and a few other little gems about this particular one on the internet (which I’ll link in at the bottom of this post).
As you can see there is NO Reset Button… so if this thing fails and you can’t access the web page backend or firmware you’ve got no chance of resetting it.
hmmm…. yerp ok, onwards then.
Sorry about the upside down ITeX. but there’s the bigger chips in this machine (for all you chippies)
There are no BOTCH wires… at all (which gives it the production line look more than the “oh bugger we’ve printed x of these and we need another trace… nah she’ll be right mate” approach.oh my, Auto spell checker on the PC is an absolute God-Send at the moment!
the 4 port RJ-45 conecter is from LAN MATE (looks a bit OTS Mate) and yeah well that’s about it for this puppy! Here’s a picture of the bottom of the board … nothing special as you can see…
Ok, I know this has only been a short tear down but … there wasn’t really much to this little bit of gear.
For those of you who are interested here are the data sheets I dug up about this little puppy:
User’s Manual – ftp://files.dlink.com.au/products/DSL-500/Manuals/DSL-504_Manual.pdf
Transistor (i think) – http://www.datasheetlib.com/datasheet/818536/5253_pomona-electronics.html
the 5 port controller? maybe – http://pdf.datasheetcatalog.com/datasheets2/44/44874_1.pdf
and that is all I could dig up in the way of data sheets.
right time for you to leave a comment in the box bellow and share this with your friends if you liked it!
PEACE.
