Friday TearDown #001 – D-LINK Router

Well, welcome in to the very first of my FRIDAY TEARDOWNS! [ I will be doing some video on future ones but lets just stay at this for the moment.]

ok, so today you’ll be getting a look inside an internet router (roughly of 2002 vintage) so not that old but… old enough to be obsolete …. though as the proverbial saying goes not obsolete enough that you can’t find the datasheet and a few other little gems about this particular one on the internet (which I’ll link in at the bottom of this post).

The Business End - 1x power adapter | 4x RJ-45 ports | 1x 9 pin Serial port | 1x ADSL in port

The Business End – 1x power adapter | 4x RJ-45 ports | 1x 9 pin Serial port | 1x ADSL in port

As you can see there is NO Reset Button… so if this thing fails and you can’t access the web page backend or firmware you’ve got no chance of resetting it.

hmmm…. yerp ok, onwards then.

This lovely little ARM Processor looks to be top stocks in processing this router

No Need For Two ARMs.. – This lovely little ARM Processor looks to be top stocks in processing this router

I couldn't find any Information on this OTS (off the shelf) Chip from ITeX

Off The Shelf Mate, – I couldn’t find any Information on this OTS (off the shelf) Chip from ITeX

Sorry about the upside down ITeX. but there’s the bigger chips in this machine (for all you chippies)

TXC Clock??? -This TXC looks to be the biggest crystal (clock i think) in this router

Big Caps for Little Machine – Them Bigger caps appear to be el-cheapos from CTC (again OTS) [ data sheet for the transistor (4 pin) is down below ]

There are no BOTCH wires… at all (which gives it the production line look more than the “oh bugger we’ve printed x of these and we need another trace… nah she’ll be right mate” approach.

oh my, Auto spell checker on the PC is an absolute God-Send at the moment!

the 4 port RJ-45 conecter is from LAN MATE (looks a  bit OTS Mate) and yeah well that’s about it for this puppy! Here’s a picture of the bottom of the board … nothing special as you can see…

The Bottom - Nothing too special as you can see

Ok, I know this has only been a short tear down but … there wasn’t really much to this little bit of gear.

For those of you who are interested here are the data sheets I dug up about this little puppy:

User’s Manual – ftp://files.dlink.com.au/products/DSL-500/Manuals/DSL-504_Manual.pdf

Transistor (i think) – http://www.datasheetlib.com/datasheet/818536/5253_pomona-electronics.html

the 5 port controller? maybe – http://pdf.datasheetcatalog.com/datasheets2/44/44874_1.pdf

and that is all I could dig up in the way of data sheets.

right time for you to leave a comment in the box bellow and share this with your friends if you liked it!

PEACE.

P.S. – I will be putting a close up tour of this board on you tube soon. If you like what I’m doing you can Leave me a donation at Patreon

Easter Camp 2015 #NorthernEC15

Well here I am nearly 2 weeks after Easter Weekend, and what better to do for Easter Weekend than go completely crazy and party along with around 6,000 other people. Yep, that’s right 6 THOUSAND!!! wow!

now on retrospect, it was a good idea that I had registered as a helper (4 hours per day) I was supervising 2 teams of people serving dinners (who knew lasagne could weigh that much?), but it was extremely satisfying to see around 6,00 people feed at the end of the day.

HOW 2: Make 2 Adapters form the same (or different) 2 Leads

You can use ANY 2 cables / leads for this so long as you get the wires joined right.

What we are making is essentially 1 Male to Male (Jack to Jack) lead and one Female to Female (Socket to Socket) lead. You can find them in MOST shops that sell AUX Leads / Cables, BUT the know how is handy if you don’t have any money or such a shop isn’t anywhere near you.

You will need:

H21

2x AUX Leads

2x Cables / AUX leads (in my case)

1x SHARP Crafts knife (and wire strippers if you have them)

3x colors of Electrical Insulation tape (Thin width mine was 0.75in or 2cm wide)

How to:

Use your crafts knife to cut both leads in half (doesn’t have to be perfect but you’ll want room if you make a boo boo)

match Jack to Jack ends

then strip the insulation (farther back than you need to)

double the wires over and twist together

H22.Jpg

Twist separate Wires Together

VERY IMPORTANT -.-

MAKE SURE COLORS MATCH!!!

and twist the 2 red ones together
repeat for both the other wires

Finally go CRAZY with insulation tape (even if you have soldered them together)

REMEMBER: the more tape the less movement and the less chance of you having to redo all your hard work

REPEAT  for the second (female) adapter.

DON’T FORGET: to use the adapter(s) … you’ve Made them (hopefully to use them) so USE THEM!!!

in the meantime ENJOY MAKING your adapters.

PEACE!

My Intentions

For My next Blog I will be doing it via Video.

The Topic: Worship Software

Subject: Media Shout by: Media Complete

also reviewing: Pro Presenter // Easy Worship // Proclaim // Live Worship among others

The intent: to help people of churches who may still be using Power-point (not a bad software but defiantly not the ideal worship software) understand what is waiting in the wings and make the choosing easier by listing Pros & cons of each software.

how many V-logs have you done before? None this is my first so please don’t hate mail me or anything like that. 🙂

The expected launch date will be arround the 15 April 2014
